The Google Pixel 6 and 6 Pro will have UWB (Ultra-Wideband) support. This information basically comes directly from Google. The company confirmed that via a note in AOSP.
The Google Pixel 6 will offer UWB support
It says that the “Pixel specific UWB HAL from Android S” should be renamed to avoid any conflicts with “Android T”. Google is essentially working on a “hardware abstraction layer” for UWB on Pixel smartphones, for Android 12.
This is actually just a reconfirmation of UWB for the Pixel 6. Google did hint, earlier this year, that the Pixel 6 will include UWB support.
For those of you who are out of the loop, UWB stands for Ultra-Wideband. That is essentially a radio that allows smartphones to interact with devices nearby, which use the same tech. It essentially boosts connectivity with other phones with the same tech.
Not many smartphones use this technology these days. Apple’s iPhone 12 series does, its AirTag accessories. The same goes for Samsung’s latest flagships, and its Galaxy SmartTag+ accessory.
Google already announced both devices, kind of
The Google Pixel 6 and 6 Pro were already announced by Google, kind of. The company showed off the design of the two phones, while it did release some details, but not all. A proper announcement will follow in the fall, the company promised.
These two phones will be flagship-grade. They’ll mark Google’s return to premium handsets. Both devices will run the Google Tensor SoC, Google’s very first processor. That is the chip that Google also announced recently.
Unfortunately, the company did not release much information about the chip either. All we got is a teaser, basically, while more information will follow during the Pixel 6 launch later this year.
The Pixel 6 and 6 Pro information has been leaking for a while now. It seems like Google is going all out this time around, as the two phones will also deliver a considerably different design.
